On August 26, 2026, mid-trial in Oakland, Meta agreed to pay a maximum of $16.68 billion to resolve claims by states that it designed Facebook and Instagram to addict children, misled consumers about safety, and improperly collected children's data. Meta also agreed to nationwide teen safeguards, including daily usage limits and nighttime blocks, and denied wrongdoing. This settlement resolves the states' enforcement claims — it does not pay individual families and does not create a claim form. Individual injury claims in MDL 3047 and in state courts are not resolved by it, and Snap, TikTok, and YouTube are not parties to it.
